Overview
The Senior Vice President of Retail Banking was responsible for presenting monthly performance updates to the bank’s Board of Directors.
Preparing these reports required manually extracting data from large core system exports — often hundreds of pages of line-item financial data — and assembling slides by hand. The process consumed 3–4 days at the beginning of every month.
I designed and built an automated reporting system that reduced preparation time from several days to approximately 10 minutes.
The Challenge
- Core banking system exports delivered as massive text-based reports

The data existed — but extracting insight from it was inefficient and time-intensive.
The Solution
I developed a centralized Excel workbook that:
- Used Power Query to ingest and parse large core system text reports
- Consolidated three major monthly reports into retail-specific metrics
- Structured results into clean, normalized tables
- Automatically generated current and historical performance views
The dashboard provided:
- Current month performance
- Month-over-month changes
- Year-over-year comparisons
- 24-month historical views
- Sparkline trend visualizations
Charts were paired with a “Copy to PowerPoint” button to streamline slide creation.
